Charleston Gaillard Center, Charleston, South Carolina
In 2002 Steven Bronfenbrenner, in collaboration with a theatrical design firm, completed a detailed assessment of the cultural facilities and programs in Charleston, South Carolina. Our work concluded with recommendations for both renovating existing facilities and the construction of new venues for the performing arts. The needs assessment considered the ongoing programming of Spoleto-USA Festival as well as local groups such as the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Stage, and academic programs.
In 2012, BCG was called upon to return and guide implementation of our earlier recommendations. We collaborated with the City to develop a Detailed Project Plan to support the operations of the soon-to-be-renovated Gaillard Center. In 2014 the firm then provided interim executive management services, collaborated with the Gaillard Performance Hall Foundation to secure capital funding, and recruited the venue’s first Executive Director. The venue opened in October 2015 to favorable reviews.
